Bio
Wittfrida Mitterer is a professor at the public university of Innsbruck since 2008 and since 2005 she organizes the post-degree course on Construction Building for the Sustainability (or bio-architecture) at the LUMSA University of Rome. Her focus is in the recovery and enhancement of constructions with an ecological approach. Since 1992 she is the director of the first Italian newspaper “Bioarchitecture” and co-founder of the Association Bioarchitecture (1988) and of the National Institute of Bioarchitecture (1990). Since 2002 she develops in Bolzano community projects for the enhancement of the landscape and of the historic-technical-architectural inheritance, establishing for instance the “Percorso della tecnica (Path of the technic)” along the cycle paths. She is involved in the plan of reconstruction of the village of Onna (L’Aquila, Italy) after the Earthquake of 2009. In 2012 she also founded the Italian Foundation of Bioarchitecutre and Sustainable anthropization of the environment. She believes that the usage of good and sustainable materials, the enhancement of old constructions in relation with their context without wasting the soil are the tools to spread a life vision where there are rights for everyone.
