Dear friends
this is the first official mail about Cortona Week 2020, and it opens with a very important news: the next Cortona Week will be held in Cortona, at the old place, Hotel Oasi Newman, from June 27 (Saturday) till July 4 (Saturday) with registration beginning on Friday 26, afternoon. This change was due mostly to some problem with the booking at the Hotel Bramante. The theme of the week is Society in flux: choosing the paths.
Thus, we go back, with some emotion, to the original place. For those of you who do not know Cortona, a couple of simple information here (you will find more in our web site shortly). Cortona is in Tuscany, bordering with Umbria, close to Assisi, Florence, Pisa, Rome. As all towns of Etruscan origin (like Perugia, Urbino, Todi), is built in a hill, and therefore not directly reachable by train. However, there are two railway stations (Terontola-Cortona and Camucia-Cortona) which are only 20, resp. 10 min. taxi away from Hotel Oasi- we will organise some service. It is an art-city, with several art galleries and the famous museum with Piero della Francesca, and the large Etruscan museum. Rather elegant small city, also famous for the good restaurants. The Hotel Oasi is downhill from the centre, 20-25 min. walking or 3 min. taxi. Food at the Hotel is excellent (I checked this also with people who were at the last Cortona-ETHZ in 2017, also obviously good food for vegetarians and vegans).
We have already a great list of names as lecturers and workshop leaders- most of them new- and all proceeds well with the program.
Our main problem, as always, is the financial support. To help in this direction, two requests:
the first, to all members of the APS Cortonafriends, is to please pay the yearly membership of 100 euro, using the iban in our web page, which will allow you the membership to the APS till our next meeting in 2020; please do not forget that, our entire meeting depends on donations from outside, and this brings to the second request: see whether you can find philanthropic partners who might substantially help us. You can, if necessary, send this PDF, that we are using for oversea students.
